When Sam returned from his working holiday in Zakynthos, we were about to set off on our annual summer caravan holiday in France. He decided to take advantage of the time remaining of his career break and come with us. Our destination was Le Barcares, on the Mediterranean near Perpignan. We stayed at the California campsite and because we were able to avoid the school holidays we had the site virtually to ourselves. The June weather was glorious and we spent most of our days in the pool, at the nearby beach or cycling around the area. We also took advantage of all the sporting facilities provided by the site. We made a couple of trips across the border into Spain, the highlight being a visit to Barcelona on Sam's birthday which included a tour of The Camp Nou, which he loved, and the Familia Sagrada by which he was also impressed. The journey home included a trip over the Viaduc de Millau for Sam's benefit. The whole holiday left us with very happy memories.
